Privacy Policy - Clamshot

Clamshot Privacy Policy

Clamshot, the camera app for iPhone, by Don Chia. Last updated 20 October 2026.

The short version: Clamshot doesn't collect any data. There are no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking, and no servers. Your photos and everything else stay on your iPhone.

The camera

Clamshot uses the camera for the viewfinder and to take photos. The picture is processed on your iPhone and never leaves it.

The microphone

Clamshot only uses the microphone in Sparkle mode, to tell when you blow into it. It only measures how loud the sound is. It doesn't record or keep any audio, and the microphone is only on while Sparkle mode is on and the camera is running.

Your photos

Photos you take stay in Clamshot's own album on your iPhone. They don't include your location.

When you tap SAVE, Clamshot copies that photo to your Photos library. It only asks for permission to add photos, so it can't see the photos already in your library.

When you share a photo, like a 3D .MPO file, it only goes where you choose to send it.

The album is part of your iPhone's backups, like any app's data. Deleting Clamshot deletes the album, so save the photos you want to keep first.

Clamshot Plus

Clamshot Plus is bought through Apple's App Store. Apple handles the payment, and Clamshot only learns whether Plus is unlocked on your Apple Account. I never see your name, your payment details or anything else about you. Apple's privacy policy covers the purchase.

Your settings

Your settings, like the sound volume and the console theme, are kept on your iPhone.

Crash reports from Apple

If you've chosen to share analytics with app developers (in Settings, Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements), Apple may send me anonymous crash reports and usage numbers. Apple collects these, not Clamshot, and you can turn it off there at any time.

Children

Clamshot doesn't collect data from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, I'll update this page and the date at the top.
